Topanga

Topanga canyon is a hippy enclave in the Santa Monica Mountains, i.e. in the middle of LA. It’s between the valley (convenient!) and the beach (pretty!) and is known for hiking, ranches, and other off the grid compounds for famous people, historic nudist colonies, and the home of crystals, vegans, and hunting lodges. It is beautiful and a little hard to get to. Here’s a convenient explainer article the NYT just wrote about it.

(Arriving, Leaving, Parking)

LA is a driving city, so we recommend that you have access to a car (rent a car, stay with friends who are renting a car, make friends with one of the many guests who live in LA and have a car and may be willing to carpool). With a car, city conveniences (drugstore, grocery store, cafés, shopping) are within ~10 min.

Shuttles (Marriott Hotel and Topanga AirBnbs)

Shuttles will be running between Elsewhere and the Marriott Woodland Hills (to and from). Plan to meet outside of the hotel at 5:15 to catch the shuttle. For people staying in Topanga, a shuttle will also be running between Elsewhere and Airbnbs at the end of the night (from, not to).

Parking/Uber (Everyone Else):

If you are driving or Ubering, you should park / set as your arrival address at the parking lot of a nearby church. There will be shuttles running between Elsewhere and the church parking lot all night. Address is: Topanga Christian Fellowship: 269 Old Topanga Canyon Rd, Topanga, CA 90290. Strongly recommend if you’re going to Uber that you schedule your pickup in advance, because it can take a while to get an Uber into the canyon late at night.
